“Come on, Karen Cartwright!”
“Where are we going?”
“Show’s over.”

And then they made out and hooked up and lived happily ever after.

One might imagine that you’d find this business life rather dull.
One might imagine that you know practically nothing about me.

Anonymous: Hi, Danielle. I know you're a Smash fan and also a fan of old movies so I was looking around your Marilyn Monroe tag and you look like you saw a lot of movies of her. Do you have any favorites or do you have any ones you would suggest to watch for someone who loves Smash and wants to see more movies about Marilyn Monroe?

Hello, gray! Some recommendations/personal faves that you should definitely check out:

  1. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (forever and ever #1 recommendation! Delightful, classic Hollywood musical that centers around a female friendship when practically all of its contemporaries focused on male/female romantic relationships, how can you not.)
  2. The Misfits (Gable and Clift and Monroe! Directed by John Huston, one of the greatest film directors ever and also Anjelica Huston’s father! You’re welcome! :D)
  3. Let’s Make Love
  4. Some Like It Hot
  5. Bus Stop (She displays, imo, the best of her acting ability in this movie)
  6. Seven Year Itch
  7. Don’t Bother To Knock (A close second to Marilyn’s best, acting-wise)

Also: All About Eve. I didn’t include it in the list because she doesn’t play a prominent role, but she IS in it and it’s a Bette Davis film so if you feel up to it, definitely a must-watch.

If you need more recommendations, feel free to ask! This is just a small personal list, but she has a lot of other memorable movies that, while not particularly a favorite, are still popular among both Marilyn and Old Hollywood fans. Anyhow, I hope this helps, and enjoy!
